Rescue Diver Class

The PADI Rescue Diver certification is designed for divers who are interested in learning both general first aid skills and specific SCUBA-related safety and rescue procedures. This class expands diving skills to include spotting potential problems encountered during a dive, reacting to emergency situations in a controlled and efficient manner, providing first aid in the case of an accident, and above all recognizing and preventing problems before they occur.

Course Overview
The Rescue Diver course consists of 5 classroom sessions devoted to developing an understanding of the signs and symptoms other divers exhibit during stressful or emergency situations, diving related injuries and treatments, and methods of avoiding potentially dangerous situations. The second part of the class is Medic First Aid training, where participants will learn and practice CPR and basic first aid skills.

In the two indoor swimming pool sessions you will be applying and testing your new knowledge in a controlled environment. For your two days of checkout dives you will put your training to the test while under the supervision of the instructor and other expert divers.

Prerequisites
Course participants must:
1. Be certified Advanced Open Water Divers.
2. Be a Hoofers SCUBA club member. How do I become a club member?
3. Be a UW-Madison student, staff, or Union member. Wisconsin Union membership is open to everyone! Call 608-262-2263 or visit www.union.wisc.edu/membership to sign up.
4. Have recent (past 6-12 months) logged dives. Direct any questions to education@scuba.hoofers.org, especially inquiries about taking a Review/Refresher Course with the club if required.

Course Fee
The $295 course fee includes a lifetime PADI Rescue Diver certification, two year First Aid / CPR certification, and academic instructional material, including textbooks and dive tables, that participants keep for later reference. Participants who can furnish proof of current first aid certification can reduce the course price by $42.
