Advanced Open Water Class

Would you like to be able to cruise along the bottom of a lake at night guided by only the light of underwater flashlights, visit depths beyond the range of novice divers, confidently locate underwater locations during a dive, and be able to find and recover lost items from the bottom of a dive site? If so, the Advanced Open Water class is for you! This class will extend your basic certification training to allow you to make new and exciting dives comfortably and safely. If you are a diver interested in developing your skills and learning more about the underwater world, sign up for an Advanced Certification class today!

Course Overview
The PADI Advanced Open Water (AOW) class concentrates on four basic areas: underwater navigation, deep diving, night diving, and search and recovery techniques. After reading about these areas in the instructional materials provided, participants make a dive of each type under the supervision of the course instructor. The AOW rating is considered prerequisite for many of the other advanced PADI courses such as Rescue Diver, Divemaster, or other specialty courses. Upon completing the course, you will receive a lifetime AOW certification and be well prepared to safely make advanced dives.

Prerequisites
Course participants must:
1. Be certified Open Water Divers.
2. Be a Hoofers SCUBA club member. How do I become a club member?
3. Be a UW-Madison student, staff, or Union member. Wisconsin Union membership is open to everyone! Call 608-262-2263 or visit www.union.wisc.edu/membership to sign up.

Course Fee
The $250 course fee includes a lifetime PADI AOW certification, all equipment and tanks (see EQUIPMENT below), and academic instructional material, including textbooks and dive slates that participants keep for later reference.

Equipment
Hoofers SCUBA club provides all tanks and equipment (wetsuit, regulator, BCD, mask, fins, snorkel, weights and weight belts) as part of the class. You're welcome to bring any or all of your own equipment if you prefer.

You will need to bring your dive log book, and may be asked to bring a set of batteries for dive lights for the night checkout dive. You'll also need your own bottom timer (a watch that's water resistant to 100 meters or better, or a dive computer). They typically cost $25 and up.

Locations, Dates & Times
The Advanced Open Water course is offered three times each year (Spring, Summer, Fall). Each class consists of a half hour classroom on a Thursday evening at 7pm, and a Saturday & Sunday of checkout dives. The course schedule can also be reviewed on the Hoofer SCUBA calendar.
